So today we call our Discover credit card company to see why our purchases don’t quite make it to the 5% “Cash Back” they constantly advertise.
First problem was that we had bought some items at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club. Discover only pays ΒΌ (one-quarter) of one percent on anything bought at these stores. And they told us that it would be a good idea, NOT to buy at these stores if you want a cash back bonus!
We also asked about the 5% cash back we “Never” get to see. We were told that we could get 5% back on wedding gowns purchased between October first and January first. But since 98% of Wedding Gowns are bought between February first and May thirty-first… In this manner Discover won’t have to pay out if at all any 5% cash backs!
Our office decided it was time for a change and we went online and got a Capitol One Platnum card. We will tell you more about that when we begin to use it.
So, anything like this ever happen to you?

Need to add some additional information about the 5% cash back. Discover finally returned our call and said that “Most” of the 5% cash back comes from special offers like when you take a world cruise, or book a flight round trip to Paris.
The catch with it is: Even if your cruise or flight cost $5,000, don’t look for a 5% cash back of $250. The “Small Print” reads that it will only pay you up to your “First” $500 of spending ($25 total) and you don’t even get 1% on the remainder $4,500! Not even a 1/4%!
No matter what the deal with Discover, you lose!

Well we got the new Capitol One Platnum card, looked over the paperwork that had come with it and then dialed the 800 number to activate it…
Low and behold… They tell us that there is a $29.95 activation fee, plus an annual $29.95 membership fee!
We look over the paperwork that came with the original application AND the pages that came with the card. On both it states: “No Annual Fee”! And no mention of any activation fee.
We advised “Tony” (who lives in India) that he may go ahead and cancel our credit card. Who owns this company…? Discover Card?
